History - Chung Do Kwan TKD

Originating in Korea. Tae Kwon Do (TKD) is a modern martial art that is based on the premise of peace through strength. Like all martial arts TKD is a system used for fighting and self-defense in all possible situations. TKD can be more than just a way of fighting but also a positive way of life. Through practicing the art of TKD the student strives to become a better person. The student learns how to avoid a fight by developing strength and confidence, this means having the courage to walk away from a negative situation and the sense to avoid a dangerous environment. The goal is not to harm others or to instigate attacks but to be able to defend yourself.

It is easy to distinguish TKD from other martial arts. No other martial art emphasizes kicking techniques more than TKD. The belief is that the legs are longer and stronger then the arms so they better suited for self-defense. This does not mean that TKD ignores the importance of the hands. Hand techniques are very important for striking and blocking in TKD.

TKD is known worldwide for its high kicking techniques as well as its jumping and flying kicking techniques. These types of techniques make up the art form of TKD. It is amazing to witness a TKD student performs a near perfect kicking technique or a flying technique up to eight feet in  the air.
